NATIONAL HISTORY
alpha Kappa Delta Phi was established at the University of California at Berkeley in the Fall of 1989, and recognized by the College Panhellenic Association on February 7, 1990. The fourteen founding sisters dedicated themselves to establishing a strong and lasting organization, which would provide Asian American women the opportunity to participate in the Greek system. Soon after being recognized by the College Panhellenic Association, the founding sisters brought together a diverse group of women who shared with them the goals of sisterhood, scholarship, and leadership. These ideals were to later set the foundation for alpha Kappa Delta Phi's purpose.
alpha Kappa Delta Phi is the first and only international Asian-interest sorority with 66 chapters at various universities and colleges throughout the United States and Canada. This sisterhood is also the largest and fastest growing Asian-interest sorority to this day. With the support of thousands of active sisters and alumnae, the growth of strong and successful women continues to expand.
CHAPTER HISTORY
In the Spring of 2013, a group of women aspired to create a “home away from home.” With the help of alpha Kappa Delta Phi International Sorority, Inc., the interest group A.T.H.E.N.A. (we Aspire Through Heart, Ethics, Nobility, and Achievements) was formed at the University of Texas at Arlington.
With the support and guidance of the UTA Multicultural Greek Council, host chapter Baylor University, and New Member Educator Judy Nguyen, A.T.H.E.N.A. strived to establish an organization that would provide more diversity in the Greek community and a support system for future young women at the University of Texas at Arlington.
On April 4, 2015, through hard work and dedication, the 12 women of A.T.H.E.N.A. were officially recognized as sisters of the 49th chapter of alpha Kappa Delta Phi International Sorority Inc., the largest international and fastest growing Asian-interest sorority and as the first Asian-interest sorority to join the Greek community at The University of Texas at Arlington.
