 NATIONAL PHILANTHROPY

alpha Kappa Delta Phi continuously strives to give back to the community through our national philanthropy, Breast Cancer Awareness. Breast cancer is the second leading cancer death in women, following lung cancer. About 1 out of 8 women will be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer during their lifetime. Today, there are 2.8 billion breast cancer survivors in the United States. This is due to increasing awareness and research that will eventually help find a cure. We dedicate the month of October specifically for Breast Cancer Awareness month, in which sisters across the nation hold many events in order to raise money for our cause. This past year, we were able to raise over $100,000 with the help of all of our chapters!

alpha Kappa Delta Phi is a proud exclusive partner of the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade, which is an organization that raises funds and awareness for breast cancer research and to advance access to care, with a focus on the medically underserved. From its launch in 1992, Avon's Global Breast Cancer Crusade has expanded to more than 55 countries and by the end of 2009 had raised and awarded more than $640 million. Grants are made in five areas: breast cancer education and awareness, screening and diagnosis, access to treatment, support services and scientific research. The largest source of funds for the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade is the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer.

As an organization, we believe that our support has aided those affected by breast cancer and has made finding the cure one step closer. We hope to provide indefinite support and awareness until no one would be affected by breast cancer.

CHAPTER PHILANTHROPY

Events include hemophilia tabling to bring awareness, food sales, and Instagram bingo where all proceeds go towards our philanthropy.
