Violence Awareness Tabling

On January 31, 2020 we tabled in front of the Library mall and handed out purple ribbons in order to raise awareness for our fallen sister Valerie Zavala. This tradition is one that our sorority upholds every single year in order to honor her memory. We all wear baby blue (which is her favorite color) and purple ribbons in order to pay our respects to her. One day in the winter of 2003, Valerie was visiting home for the break and was the designated driver for her friends for a New Year Eve's Party. That was the last sighting of her alive. The following morning she was found deceased. Valerie was a victim of a senseless act of violence committed towards her by a stranger who was later convicted of her murder and is currently serving a life sentence. What happened to her was unjust and is the reason why we adopted this philanthropy in order to raise awareness and empower other women to be wary and protect themselves.
